EcoLog building assembly instructions are summarized in an easy to follow, well-detailed and illustrated building guide. This process is very straightforward and is based on applying a century of log building experience and understanding. This tradition is complemented by modern improvements, such as the specific choice of logs and cutting technique, and based on our modern understanding of wood. The addition of contemporary building components, such as chinking, as well as an engineered design which considers structural stability as well as ease of assembly, complete the EcoLog Concept. Accordingly, EcoLog buildings can be erected by any professional with some basic building experience. Log-building proficiency is not necessarily required.

EcoLog building kits include the following basic components:

  • Development of a custom floor plan design including basement/foundation. The final plan version is approved by a professional engineer, forming the basis for any building related application process.
  • 11 courses of 8" squared wall timbers, pre-cut to design, resulting in 9' high walls.
  • Engineered 4" x 10" heavy roof trusses. The unique roof truss assembly, spanning 24', covers the length of the building at 4' intervals. Additional trusses at either end of the building provide a 4' overhang. The resulting building features a steep pitched roof, a spacious second floor/loft area, and high, vaulted ceilings.
  • Wall insulation, hardware, log chinking and hemlock boarding to cover roof and gables.
Additional options and add-ons are:
  • Roof-flares to extend the roof overhang.
  • Structural material for covered or open patios and decks.
  • Seismic kits for earthquake prone areas.
The square-timber wall logs and plain box-joint corners make EcoLog homes easy to assemble and maintain. Commonly, the erection of the building occurs by hand - one timber at a time - with only the roof assembly requiring the use of a crane for a few hours. The erection of an average-sized EcoLog shell will take between two and four weeks. Following a century-old, proven tradition, the entire building is held in place by hardwood dowels attached to each and every timber in several locations. The end product is a rustic and charming building you will be proud of at a price you can afford.
